VC was appointed Captain of Port Seton Golf Club

Plans were written for any course at Port Seton in 1910. Over 100 acres of land was leased in the Earl of Weymss for Thirty years. The course was the initiative in the Port Seton The game Company and of the loss of ?¨º2000 was borne through the Musselburgh and District Electric Lighting and Traction Company Ltd, whose terminus at Port Seton was midway down the course.

The course extended from Chalmers Memorial Church around the west, to beyond Morten Cottage around the east and near Seton Mill for the south. Lady Wemyss officially opened the Course on Saturday July 6, 1912.

The course was utilized by many people local clubs such as the Thorntree Golf-club, and attracted an excellent crowd for its first professional tournament in June 1914 which was won by taylormade burner superfast 2.0 driver George Duncan the next (1920) Open Champion. Earlier inside same year a spacious clubhouse was built, nowadays referred to as Olde Ship Inn.

Although the Golf Course avoided compulsory tillage in the First World War, the managing company thought it was impossible to produce payments and as soon as the Town Council declined to help out nine holes were lost in 1918 on account of insufficient patronage.

The writing was around the wall with the mid-1930s, however. After a procedure for them through the club, the location Council took over the lease from Port Seton The game Company in 1936. Using the lease expiring in November 1938, the council tried to buy or renew the lease about the land but with no success. Thus the main harbour Seton Course ceased to exist and also the land was returned to the original state through the beginning of 1939.

When the course closed the Port Seton Club amalgamated with the Prestonpans Thorntree Club and employ was developed with the Royal Musselburgh greens.

In 1957 a gathering of local golfers made a decision to reform the old club and got three in the old taylormade r9 supertri driver trophies (Cadell Medal, Gourlay Cup and McKinley Cup) with the Thorntree Club.

After surviving difficult times during the 70s and early 80s, the club is thriving with local golfers competing for trophies (and bragging rights at the Thorntree Inn) over seven outings throughout the summer season.

The club annually contests two interclub challenges with all the Thorntree and Cockenzie Golf equipment and possesses historically held matches with Dirleton Castle and Longniddry Golf sets.

The club is affiliated towards the discount golf clubs Lothian Golf Association along with the Scottish Golf Union along with requiring all members to be social folks the Royal Musselburgh Golf-club at least in recognition of the relationships.

Various celebrations are planned to commemorate the centenary, including a small exhibition of memorabilia and historical information amongst the club.
