Hanse will design the 2016 Olympic golf course

Hanse will team up with Hall of Fame player Amy Alcott to construct the 1st Olympic the game because the sport was dropped following a 1904 St. Louis Games. Organizers picked Hanse Golf Design over seven other finalists.

"I'm still somewhat stunned through the event," Hanse told The Associated Press by phone from Miami. "We are obviously very honored, very humbled from the selection. It had been a thrill only to take the Mizuno MX-1000 irons competition with your great designers. I'm excited how the selection panel felt that our efforts were the ones that best matched the criteria set by organizers."

The announcement by Rio 2016 organizers is made at the site in which the new course will probably be built, inside Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, that may hold a lot of the Olympic venues. Following the 2016 Games, the course will be used as being a public facility.

The Rio 2016 committee said Hanse Golf Design was "the candidate that most aptly met the selection criteria" from organizers, proposing a strong legacy component that included a golf academy to help the sport's increase in Brazil.

"Hanse Course Design tackled task of designing a program for use by both elite and amateur athletes, one Mizuno JPX-800 Irons of the primary legacy objectives," the committee said in a very statement. "It addressed the environmental sustainability directives for that games and efficiently conformed towards the building restrictions about the land."

"We want to build courses that are very environmentally sensitive," he was quoted saying.

The other firms that made the ultimate shortlist were Gary Player Design, Greg Norman Greens Design, Hawtree Ltd., Nicklaus Design, Renaissance Golf, Robert Trent Jones II and Thomson-Perret Course Architects.

Nicklaus was set to synergy with women's great Annika Sorenstam, while Norman were built with a partnership with retired discount golf clubs player Lorena Ochoa.

"I provide the Olympic Committee a great deal of credit," four-time major champion Phil Mickelson said on the Cadillac Championship in Florida. "Because it would are actually much easier to opt for a major name and instead, they opted for the top. I thought that was pretty cool."
